Over at NaturalDogFood.info, it seems to be getting slightly nasty. Everyone seems to be making valid points.

It’s an OPINION discussion. Telling people what to do with their dog is like telling people what to do with their kids and some folks are getting fairly defensive over their ‘parenting’ skills.

Look, feeding McDonalds in moderation with exercise does not mean your kids will be overweight, lazy or stupid. But I still read the nutrition facts and don’t really want myself to eat there, however when I’m hungry I will pitch them a dollar on the value menu and get my double cheeseburger.

How I feel about premium dog foods depends on what you classify as premium dog foods. Lila likes crap. It must be an affection for corn fillers and chicken fat. Royal Canin is one of the most expensive foods you can find at pet superstores. I even thought it was an awesome concept on breed-specific food formulas. Here’s the top five ingredients listed on Mini Adult 27: Chicken, brewers rice, chicken meal, brown rice, corn gluten meal… Meat(good),filler, meal(this is ground up bones and miscellaneous parts,so-so),filler,non absorbable filler.

Lila didn’t even like Pedigree. In fact the small bites adult top five ingredients don’t even list meat: Ground Whole Corn, Meat And Bone Meal, Ground Wheat, Corn Gluten Meal, Animal Fat (Preserved With Bha/Bht). However, Lila did like the sample of Rachel Ray’s Nutrish, but it wasn’t any better than the Royal Canin AND lists itself as premium dog food: Chicken, Chicken Meal, Brewers Rice, Corn Meal, Soybean Meal,

I can see how plenty of people can get pissed off about premium dog foods. Blue Buffalo that so many tout online and by word of mouth, SMELLS. I was given it for cat food once and I will never voluntarily buy it.

I tried on Ry (Lila) Natural Balance; She wouldn’t touch it. Pedigree; She wouldn’t touch it. Nutrish; She was ok with. Before Grain; so-so.
Sometimes I would catch her eating cat food.

I can afford this plan for my dog. She is just under 12 lbs and poops less on PREMIUM food that -I- choose because it’s less fillers. It’s not available everywhere but I’m fortunate Pet Club has it. Nature’s Variety Instinct Formula. It’s $12 for a 4.4 bag if I can remember, and it lasts Lila a very long time… Over a month. I know it doesn’t have a whole meat product listed in the top five but it doesn’t use cheap fillers and there are meat products listed throughout the ingredient list like(chicken formula) chicken eggs, duck eggs, turkey hearts, turkey liver, chicken liver, turkey and also boasts an ingredient glossary.

*sigh* but Lila is a picky eater. To coax her into eating what is good for her and get her to stay out of the cat food, you gotta have a side order of fries with that salad. Pedigree canned food(smells like vienna sausages, which she loves) gets mixed into her kibble once a day. The rest of the time it’s dry kibble in her dish for when she gets hungry.
1 can of that junk lasts her nearly a month. I started splitting it up and putting half in the freezer when I open a new can.

That’s it. That’s my rant and comparison and pitch I guess. There’s several other foods out there that you can conclude your business by checking here at Pet Food Ratings.
